This all changed when I was roughly 27 years old. I went through some extremely big changes in my life and was under a large amount of emotional stress which in turn sent my skin into turmoil. I started to develop redness and little bumps, similar to pimples all over my chin, forehead and I didn’t know what to do. After a visit with my GP I was diagnosed with a stress induced skin dermatitis, very similar to slight acne. It was a very hard time for me and I became very self conscious of my skin. It was dry, flaky, red and pimply and I went from wearing BB creams or light weight foundations to heavier ones to cover up.
So with terrible looking skin and feeling pretty terrible inside I went on a search to find a new skin care routine. Something new to treat my skin and help with the recovery while I was taking skin medication given to me by my GP. This was when I decided to try Lush and I fell in love! Lush is all handmade products made from natural ingredients and they are also involved in numerous charities and programs all over the world. I also found their staff to be really helpful, fun and they have a huge variety of products for different things.
After about 3 months of the medication and my new lush products my skin cleared up. I went back to having normal skin with the occasional pimple but little did I know my skin type had changed forever. I went from having normal skin to combination skin with an oily T zone.
I really wanted to just talk a bit about my regular skin routine and which products I find work the best for me. This is what I do to keep my skin looking healthy, feeling great and keeping it in top shape.
Cleanse and Scrubs:
I always cleanse my skin once to twice a day, my favourite face cleansers would have to be the Lush Herbalism and Dark Angles!
Lush Herbalism is a great daily cleanser. It isn't too abrasive or harsh on the skin, and it has amazing natural ingredients which help to combat break outs, spots and leaves your face feeling clean, fresh and hydrated.
Dark Angels is a scrub I use once a week. I find this is a bit too harsh on my skin for every day use but if you have very oily skin you may feel differently. It is more abrasive, smells amazing - like licorice and it contains charcoal and black sugar which is amazing for drawing oils out of the skin. It is a great exfoliant and leaves your skin looking bright and fresh. It really gets in and budges any blocked pores or any dirt and oil from my skin.
I like to keep my skin care routine simple but yet also effective. My favourite toner would have to be the Lush tea tree toner spray. It smells amazing, it’s hydrating and refreshing. Tea tree a great natural antiseptic and for keeping those pimples at bay. I always have this with me and I make sure I have a travel sized one for when I am on the go as it leaves me feeling so refreshed and I love the smell.
After cleansing it is really important to hydrate and put moisture back into your skin. The sooner you can do this the better. After a good cleanse your pores are open, your skin is warm and fresh and it will really soak up the moisturiser. I moisturise my face and neck twice a day with Olay Complete Moisture Lotion - Normal/Dry. This is a great every day cream. It is lightweight, hydrating and also contains vitamin E, aloe and green tea extract. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated without feeling greasy. For around my eyes I use Olay 7 Anti-Ageing eye cream to help battle dark circles, wrinkles and dryness. It also contains cucumber extract which is nice and soothing for the eyes.
Masks and Treatments
I like to give my face a nice mask at least once every 2 weeks. I find it helps to clear up any spots or breakouts, replaces the moisture in my skin and really helps keep it looking nice and glowing. It is also great for stress relief! I personally find a little pamper really helps me to de-stress and relax.
