So today I wanted to share with you a fantastic make up experience, perhaps one of my best so far... but before doing so I need to take you back to the beginning. This would be at Christmas. In my family we play secret santa for Christmas. This year my Uncle had me and one of the things he brought me was a voucher. The voucher was for a company called SC Artistry and it was a place I had never heard of. It was for a one on one make up lesson which I could book over the next year. Not sure what to expect but very excited I got in contact and booked my lesson which I attended last Sunday.
The lesson was 90 minutes long and it was with Simone Cohen - one of the Co-Directors. Simone is a make up artist and also the author of Get the Look column in the West Australian Newspaper. Along with this class Simone also runs Certified Make Up Artistry courses and more Advanced Courses as well. With the One on One Make Up Lesson, I wasn't sure what to expect but I packed my make up and brushes and headed over to meet Simone at her studio in Bedford.
First off lets talk about the studio. The studio has a clean rustic feel to it, with metal stools and timber bench tops and a centre bench on wheels which can be used for larger classes. There are stands full of make up all around the studio featuring Becca, Morphe, Bite and many others to play with. There was a colour wheel on the wall along with a black board for brainstorming and ideas. Simone made me feel really welcome and comfortable right from the beginning and she had her little dog plodding around who was just so cute. After our introductions it was time to figure out what I wanted to work on. As this is a one on one course so you can tailor it to suit yourself. It's fantastic because it means it will suit beginners who want to learn the basics and even people who are more familiar with make up or are make up junkies like myself. Anyone who would like to learn more about make up with find this course beneficial.
As I was unsure what I wanted to work on, Simone suggested we start with something I am most scared of....which for me is colour. So we started with the base and I was keen to try some products I haven't used before so we tried the Becca Primer and Foundation, the Ben Ney setting powder. Then we moved into using some Morphe Eyeshadows. Oh my gosh! How amazing are Morphe Eyeshadows! They are so pigmented, easy to blend and sit really nicely on the eyes. We went for a mix of warm burgundies and red browns to create a smokey eye shadow look. It was a lot of fun. In amongst all this Simone was also able to teach me more about the different styles of make up brushes, the different hairs and what they are best used for. Best of all I got to play around with her SC Artistry signature buffing brush. This brush is made in Japan and hand painted by Simone herself so no two are alike. This brush is great for applying moisturiser, primers, blending foundations, contours and other face brushes and also makes a great eraser for mistakes made later. It really is a one of a kind multi-purpose brush. I loved it so much I have ordered one for myself from Simone.
The 90 minutes that we had together went so quickly, I learnt so much about eyeshadow placement, my face and eye shape and what will best suit me and my skin colouring. I also learnt so much about brushes and what I need to brushes I still need to add to my collection. It was also awesome to just sit and talk with someone who is so passionate about make up. We were able to share ideas, talk about what products we each love and just share knowledge. It really was one of my most memorable make up experiences so far.
This is a course I would recommend to any make up junkie. They also run make up certified courses which I know I will definitely be looking into completing. You can contact Simone at www.scartistry.com.au
